Hey Dave,
love the post and the interview with Shaun. It made me think of a lot of things, mainly that students find colleges in millions of ways, and Shaun has tapped into many of the most cutting edge of those ways. At Claremont McKenna we have just launched a website called CMCNation, it's a hybrid site that combines the best features of what an admission office can do, with the raw edge of students writing live and in real time, and then posting up to the minute perspectives on everything from soccer finals, to faculty lectures to on campus parties. We admit that it's an experiment, but in just over three weeks, we've received over 25,000 hits and over half are from international IP addresses, telling us that there is a real demand, especially in the international student community, for this kind of information about colleges. It's an insiders view for sure. We think this kind of website is going to be a big player in the future of college admissions, and as the facebook-myspace-friendster generation continues to search for and find colleges using what we now consider traditional methods like a google search at 2 am, or the high school senior next door, we think opinions and ideas and perspectives from current college students themselves will remain the most popular and in-demand option for prospective applicants as they search for and apply to college. Chats, blogs, photo essays, student produced video etc. etc. It's all on CMCNation right now. We hope CMCNation will play a vital role in Claremont McKenna's contributions to the web 2.0 world in which we are now fully living.
